About us

about_image_1The story of the Dragon Flyers began in mid-2003, when teachers and parents from Canberra Grammar and Canberra Girls’ Grammar schools formed a team to compete in the 9th Australian Masters Games in Canberra.

With a handful of training sessions, limited race experience and borrowed shirts, the Canberra Grammar Flyers managed a very credible third in their first major event.

about_image_2In February 2004, they entered the Chinese New Year Dragon Boat races on Sydney’s Darling Harbour.  The enthusiasm continued and after competing at the Pan Pacific Masters Games in 2004, the Canberra Grammar Flyers became the Dragon Flyers complete with new racing strip.

about_image_3Since those early days, the ‘Flyers’ have steadily grown and in 2012, the Dragon Flyers became the only dragon boat club in the ACT (and possibly Australia) to compete outside the ACT exclusively as Masters.
